ABSTRACT
The CARS system aims to provide safety improvements to amateur
rallying as well as more accurate timing. This will be accomplished
by introducing a new electronic system to monitor the positions of
the cars at all times and allowing marshalls at the events to report
an accident, this information can then be relayed to all other users.
It will also allow marshalls to request the help of emergency services
such as paramedics and fire teams. Numerous technologies will be
utilised and some of these hopefully built upon or altered to suit the
needs of the application, the e ectiveness of these technologies in a
rapidly changing mobile environment will also be tested.
